May 2022

Dear Friends,

Graduation season is here! We want to take a moment to acknowledge the impressive efforts of our younger SF Bay PSR climate-health advocates, and ask you to give to our Student and Early Career Program Fund that was seeded by former Board Member Dr. Tom Hall, a UCSF epidemiologist and global health pioneer, who passed away in 2017.

At SF Bay PSR our Student and Early Career Programs support the development of future health professionals who want to incorporate environmental health, equity and justice, and anti-nuclear/anti-militarism advocacy into their careers. Your donation supports their mentoring, and provides them with training, financial support, and opportunities for individual projects to help our next generation of health professional activists to become leaders. Please click here to DONATE.

Our interns contribute substantively to furthering our chapter’s goals, recently for example, through:

  • Publishing an article in The Journal of Climate Change and Health on why health activists should care about waste in the healthcare system
  • Developing and disseminating a presentation on the bombardment of health facilities and the weaponization of water in conflict areas
  • Producing and implementing a community survey and resource list of climate-health benefits of building electrification
  • Creating a fact sheet on the health harms of gas stove pollution

Through this fund, we also give awards every year to three young climate-health and anti-nuclear activists for their outstanding efforts and provide them with support for their projects. Read about our 2021 awardees here.

What do our former interns say about their experiences with SF Bay PSR?

Daisy Valdivieso: “Watching the members of SF Bay PSR listen to other organizations, uplift and highlight important work, and show up to support demonstrations, but also write petitions, lead events, and provide testimony, gave me a tangible concept of the role of health professionals in health and climate advocacy.”

Sarah Abdelrahman: “Our work is so very interconnected. Before joining SF Bay PSR, I could have never imagined the connection between dermatology and climate change. Everyone comes from different professional backgrounds and yet environmental health is important to all of our work.”

Our impressive intern projects and mentoring would not be possible without your support.

THANK YOU for considering a “graduation” gift to honor and support our future leaders.
