DECEMBER 2025

Dear Friends,

All of us at SF Bay PSR wish you happy holidays, peace, and some joy during these difficult times. We are so grateful that you are part of our community of health professionals, scientists, and allied advocates joining together to support our three pillars of work: Abolishing Nuclear Weapons, Protecting the Climate, Environment, and Health, and our newly adopted third pillar, Safeguarding and Strengthening Democracy.

If you are able to make an end-of-year gift today, we would be most grateful. Your donation will help us reach our goal of $25,000, so that we can start off strong in 2026.

Please make a DONATE here! THANK YOU!

At this time when we are witnessing the daily destruction of our democracy, we can find the strength and courage that we need to resist by working together and supporting each other. And when our goals feel impossible, we remember—history shows that when even a relatively small percentage of a nation’s people engage in sustained, nonviolent action, it can help dismantle tyranny and effect change.

Please find more Ways to Give below!

We share our heartfelt gratitude with you.
And best wishes for the holiday season,

Bob Gould, MD, President
Tova Fuller, MD, PhD, Vice President

Our Work to Promote Peace and Nuclear Disarmament

Peace and nuclear disarmament may seem an impossible near-term goal, but our Nuclear Weapons Committee discussed just last week how we are in a long game, and there are many steps we can take now to protect community health, reduce and redirect military budgets, and enact safeguards and arms reductions. Historically we know that massive shifts in human society take time, sometimes decades. We have faith that persistence will pay off in the long run, and that for the sake of all those who follow in our footsteps—we have no choice but to try.

Toward the goal of protecting community health, we saw a major victory this past year—the enactment of the Radiation Compensation Exposure Act (RECA). This was born out of years of dedicated organizing efforts by Ms. Tina Cordova (2024 SF Bay PSR Gala speaker), PSR, and countless other activists. We also joined colleagues in communities speaking out against expanding local and national Department of Energy (DOE) facility plutonium “pit” production geared at expanding the numbers and lethality of our nuclear arsenal. And we provided testimony at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) hearings in opposition to proposed weakening of radiation exposure health standards that would facilitate all aspects of the nuclear power/weapons death-cycle.

More education about nuclear weapons and the industry is particularly critical as our world is moving closer to a new nuclear arms race. To stop this, we continue to advance the Back from the Brink campaign, and advocate for the extension of the New START Agreement, to reduce spending on nuclear weapons.

We also co-organized events on Hiroshima and Nagasaki days to commemorate the victims of the US bombings of Japan—and engaged in non-violent protest of accelerated nuclear weapons work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, including a “die-in” that was covered by the Associated Press News.

We also stand in solidarity with health and humanitarian workers in Gaza and other conflict zones, calling for the bombs to stop falling, and defending medical professionals who speak out against the war and the targeting of health systems.

Your gifts made this possible!

$100 provides educational resources for one community event.
