
Some in-person, early voting locations in California will be open Saturday, May 23, and many will be open on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Register to vote: If you missed the CA May 18 deadline, you may complete the “Same Day” voter registration process through Election Day on June 2, 2026, at your local county elections office or any in-person voting location

Request an absentee ballot by May 26 in CA: You can request an absentee ballot here. Deadlines and rules on who can take part vary by state. In most states, you will need to request an absentee ballot for each election, but in some, you may qualify to sign up to receive absentee ballots for every election. Did you move to a new permanent residence? Update your address?
If you moved to a new permanent residence and want to vote there, you must update your voter registration (even if it is within the same state). Submit your changes before your state’s registration deadline, which can be up to 30 days before Election Day.
California currently does not require voters to show identification at the polls, but a ballot initiative in November 2026 may change this to require a government-issued ID for in-person voting and the last four digits of an ID for mail-in ballots.
