STANFORD STUDENT CHAPTER
At Stanford student PSR members have been busy with a number
of exciting events and activities. In April 1999, they kicked
off a dinner seminar series with a lecture and discussion
on the role of the physician in screening and treating domestic
violence. In May 1999, Dr. Tessa Walters of Stanford gave
a lecture on the health effects of biological and chemical
warfare. Several of members of the student chapter have also
been working with undergraduate students at Stanford for Healthcare
Without Harm. The last week in May, students at the medical
school and main campus signed postcards urging the Stanford
Hospital Administration to stop incinerating the majority
of its waste. Stanford Student PSR is planning a noon elective
for the fall 2000 semester entitled Physicians and Social
Responsibility. There will be lectures on a variety
of topics, from environmental health effects to gun violence,
from health and human rights to grass-roots organizing. Dr.
Herbert Abrams, of Stanford, will be giving the kickoff lecture
on the history and work of Physicians for Social Responsibility.
